Sonoran Rose Earthship – Introduction

🌵An Off-Grid Sanctuary for Sustainable Living

The Sonoran Rose Earthship, also known as Earthship Journey, is Arizona’s largest Earthship home and a vibrant hub for off-grid living, art, and sustainability. Nestled on five acres in Wittmann, just northwest of Phoenix, this 4,800-square-foot, three-story structure was originally constructed in 1999 by Robert Schafer with support from the local community and designed by Michael Reynolds, the founder of Earthship Biotecture.

👨‍🌾 Owners & Stewards of the Land

Since 2020, the Earthship has been co-owned and operated by Willy Ortiz and Christopher Constant, a husband-husband team passionate about sustainability, art, and community. Together, they’ve transformed the Earthship into a living demonstration of regenerative living. Willy brings tech expertise through Willy Genius Consulting LLC, while Christopher offers creativity, land stewardship, and deep Earthship knowledge. Their shared mission is to create an educational, healing, and inclusive space that inspires others to live more harmoniously with nature.

🌞 Sustainable Design & Living Systems

Constructed from recycled and natural materials—including hundreds of earth-packed tires—the Sonoran Rose Earthship is fully off-grid, with:

  • A 24V solar power array (no monthly electric bills)
  • A 4,400-gallon rainwater catchment system
  • Greywater reuse systems
  • Passive solar heating and thermal mass cooling to maintain year-round comfort without HVAC

Willy and Christopher offer a wide variety of experiences that highlight sustainability, creativity, and connection:
