Living Room Entrance Renovation: Our First Bottle Walls!

On Sunday, May 19th, we began a much-anticipated renovation: transforming the living room entrance of our Earthship!

We started by removing the old curtains that had been temporarily hanging from the exposed studs. Then, we got to work designing the new entrance—laying out glass bottles on the floor to shape the future bottle walls that will frame the doorway.

We gathered mud from the front yard and mixed it with concrete to strengthen the adobe. To help the mud stick securely, we porcupined the studs with nails before starting the build.

Layer by layer, we stacked bottles and adobe, creating a stunning side wall that reflects the creativity and sustainability behind Earthship design. We completed one side wall on Sunday and continued with the second side on Monday, May 20th.

This renovation is extra meaningful to us—these are the first bottle walls in our Earthship, and we’re using bottles from the original owner that had never been used. It’s a tribute to the Earthship’s history and a big step toward completing the unique, artistic environment we envision.
