Earthship Entrance Gets Its First Bottle Walls

On Monday, May 20th, we completed both sides of the new bottle wall entrance to our Earthship living room! The process started Sunday, when we removed the temporary curtains and laid out bottles to shape the side walls. Using mud from our front yard mixed with concrete for durability, we built up the walls one row at a time, alternating between layers of bottles and adobe. We porcupined the wall studs with nails to help the mud grip, giving structure and strength to our build.By Monday, we had finished the second side wall, patched up any small gaps, and smoothed the surface for a clean finish. These are the first bottle walls ever added to our Earthship—and they’re extra special because we used bottles saved by the original builder that had never been used. This project brings us one step closer to completing the look and feel of our Earthship’s interior. Next, we’ll begin work on designing the faux door for the entrance!
